One week to go until primary offers day

One week to go until national primary offers day? Is anyone else feeling nervous?

Our first choice is our catchment school, which is oversubscribed massively. We are only 0.3milea from it, so should be ok (last year's furthest offer was 1.3km) but am panicking as we didn't like any of the other local schools anywhere near as much!

I can't see any circumstance where we wouldn't get our preference - it's historically been very under-subscribed due to having a rather complicated history which most people don't know enough about to see past the terrible, very out of date Ofsted; and it's not in a location everyone would find convenient for primary (although it's ideal for us). Nevertheless, I have been counting the days!

@Persipan our second choice is a lot like that (though less convenient). It's where DD's preschool friends all seem to be headed, though we didn't like it as much as they would have to change to a different juniors (with a not too great reputation). We live in a ridiculously catchment based area, so we shall see...

I’m anxious. Our first preference is 0.43 miles away and last distance offered ranges from 0.45-0.6 for the last few years. In theory we should be okay due to low birth year but still not feeling totally confident. It’s massively oversubscribed.

Second choice seems to be decent enough and we are certain to get a place as only 0.2 miles away.

just anxious to know either way!

@MidnightN argh! It's a low birth year, so hopefully our chances of getting first choices are higher....

It just feels like certain plans are on hold until we know!

Im very anxious to know! My number one choice is out of catchment and is normally oversubscribed but last year was undersubscribed by 2 (with a PAN of 60). The week after I should find out from the LA if they have decided to issue an EHCP so there is always a chance the school may say they can meet need. Once the school is named on his EHCP then I need to try to move DC1 to DC2 school but according the LA their year group is full. DC2 can’t go to DC1’z school as they are crap with SEN children. They have been pretty rubbish for DC1 but I can’t move her until I know where DC2 has got into!

Sounds complex! Hope you get your choice and manage to slot the pieces together!

I'm feeling very anxious. Our 1st preference is the furthest away (although still very close) but I'm worried it'll go against us. I'm hoping we'll get a notification soon after midnight & won't have to wait all day!

Flubadubba · 12/04/2024 22:33

@ReginaPhalange12 same hope here! Our local authority is horrendously vague and refuses to say when in the day we will receive the email...

@Flubadubba I was looking back at old MN posts & it really varies from area to area but a lot of people said it was on the portal earlier than they received the email so I'll go straight there and hope for the best

Flubadubba · 13/04/2024 08:43

@ReginaPhalange12 good call. The W Sussex portal was really sucky, though!

My local authority had uploads the admissions allocation for 2024 to their website. Not sent out offers yet (but will do Tuesday) but I can see that only 44 places have been allocations for my first preference school out of 60 so I’m guessing we are in. Looks like a really low birth year as none of the local primaries are over subscribed.
