Hi there,
I just moved se9. Dulverton primary school is the closest to my house and I would like to write an email to Bexley local authority and request them 2 places for my kids as I am struggling to do pick up and drop off every day and manage to go to work. The distance from their current school is 5mils which is taking off my 3 hours per day!
My writing is useful and I would appreciate if you could help me to write a proper email to them or even if you have a sample that I could edit and send it to admission team.
thanks in advance,
Arzu

You need to do an in-year application to Bexley to request a move. It's not about asking nicely or giving reasons I'm afraid, it will just be down to are there spaces in the years you need.

In-year primary school application form | London Borough of Bexley

It may be that there are not spaces in the school that you want, or a space for just one of them, though the second would jump up the waiting list if one got in - though that would mean having them in different schools which would presumably be very difficult.

Are there any nearer schools? You may find there are 2 spaces elsewhere that is still nearer. Bexley may be able to tell you.

How old are your kids ? Are they on a waiting list for the school?

If they are y2 or younger then there’s no chance because class sizes are capped by law. You have to wait for someone currently at the school to leave.

If there are primary schools between your current one and home then I would get in the waiting list for those. They may not be your nearest primary but it might save some time commuting.

Did you do a school appeal when you were initially rejected? You can appeal once every school year but if your kids are y3 or above then it might be worth a long shot.

Thanks, PatriciaHolm. I am going through forms for year2 and reception.

Have you tried phoning Dulverton to ask if they have reception and Year two places? If they have get on to the admissions department asap to apply for those places.

Good luck.

Phone the school first re available places

Go onto your local council website where you have to fill in an online LEA form which you'll find under school admissions

UpsideLeft · 09/03/2024 18:37

Emails will be responded to much quicker than phone calls

UpsideLeft · 09/03/2024 18:38

The school can't do anything until you've filled in the council online LEA. type form online even if they wanted to

No, but they could tell the OP if there were spaces in the year groups she needs.

Arzu83 · 09/03/2024 21:41

I have talked to them but they said the can’t do anything with school places and I need to talk Bexley authority. Thanks anyway
