Pencil grip

My left handed 7 year old doesn’t use a tripod grip when she writes. We have bought numerous pens and pencils that are designed to encourage a tripod grip but none of them have worked. We’ve also tried different rubber grips that attach to pens/pencils.

She has very neat handwriting and enjoys writing but I worry that when she gets older and has to write for longer she will find her hand aches.

Are there any left handed people out there who hold their pens using anything other than the tripod grip who can give me some words of reassurance? Or is this something we just need to work harder to fix?

My DD if left handed and doesn’t use a tripod grip and she gets on fine. Yr6 now so lots of writing and no complaints of hand ache. I do however encourage her to tilt the page to the right when she writes (It looks a bit like she’s writing downwards rather than across) to stop her smudging her work and to allow the hand and wrist to relax and write at a more comfortable angle.

Thanks, that’s reassuring. I also try and angle the page when she writes.
