twins on a waiting list...

hi, just found out our twins got our 2nd choice of school. We only moved here recently, but I've found the local parents seem to have a real downer on the school we've been given which is making me nervous

Our first choice was oversubscribed but neighbours kid got in so thought we had a chance.

We've been advised to accept the places and not join waiting list for the more popular one as we're waiting for 2 places to come up at once. Anyone any experience of this?

The school they've got into is Rockmount, SE19, anyone know it? My boys are august birthday so in a way don't wnat them anywhere too pushy as they might not keep up iyswim.

Keep them on the waiting list.

You can accept the places they've been given and still stay on another school's waiting list.

Have you been to visit the school that they've been offered? You should really go in and see for yourself. Sometimes the reports that we see aren't that accurate. You may find that the school completely suits your boys.

Also... come join us on the d'y ever thread (something about giving birth on the shagpile). Full of other multiple mums some of us with children about to start school like you and others who have or are about to give birth and of course those that have done the whole school thing.

Look forward to seeing you there!

Keep them on the list as you neighbour got into the 1st school you should be quite nr the top of the list depending on how may others nr you wanted the same school.

Have you phoned to see what numbers they are on the list?

My friend was 12 & she was offered a place just 1 week before her son started school, it does happen as people move, people decide not to take places, all sorts of reasons, don't give up because your waiting for 2 places because they may come up.

Goodluck!

I would also stay on waiting list, thankfully ds1 has just been offered a place at 1st choice school - also starts in sept and twins will follow.

Hi,
Definitely stay on the waitng list, both your children will be together on it and you never know. Also if one of them was offered a place, then the next would be in line for the next availible place. As they are summer babies and will be very young, you may be able to defer entry until they have both been allocated places?

jolo · 24/03/2008 20:35

yes, haven't found out about deferring. Was hoping to save a bit on childcare!! System not really fair on summer babies!

Hi I've got twins and I just wanted to say keep them on the list because what will happen is that when the eldest twin's name comes up on the list, the youngest twin will automatically be allocated a place, even if the numbers have been exceeded. In fact, twins is one of the few cases where class sizes can be increased.

What I mean is when they have one place available and it's your eldest twin's name next on the list they will offer it to you for both twins. You don't have to wait for 2 places to be available.

Good luck

Really?! Thats fantastic, thanks.
