Will my daughter be in year 5 or year 6?

We are moving from Australia to London in early April, we have 2 kids, my daughter was born in mid Sept 2013, I have been she will go to year 6.
The websites I have seen show she would be in year 5, this one for example https://www.fis.cityoflondon.gov.uk/news/primary-and-secondary-school-admissions
I really would prefer she has another year of primary school, moving to a school for 3
Mths and then going to high school in Sept seems daunting.
In what year would she be now?
What about my son born in Feb 2017?
Thanks

Feb 2017 would be in year 2 at the moment.
Sept 2013 would be year 5.

wtftodo · 11/02/2024 21:18

In April she will be in year 5. From September she will be in year 6.

PuttingDownRoots · 11/02/2024 21:19

Yr5.
Cut off is end of August.

However that's a good thing, as you've missed Secondary school applications, so you will be in place for them in Autumn.

Princesspollyyy · 11/02/2024 21:20

Your daughter will be in year 6
Your son will be in year 4

RootVegAndMash · 11/02/2024 21:22

100% Y5, starting Y6 in Sept.

Feb 17 would be Y2 now, starting Y3 in Sept.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 11/02/2024 21:22

Children have their 10th birthday in year 5 and 11th in year 6.
So she will be 11 in sept and will go into y6.

Nope. Year 5 and Year 2.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 11/02/2024 21:23

Posted too soon....
In sept but in y6 in April this year..

Babyboristhefirst · 11/02/2024 21:24

April this year?

They'll be in year 5 and year 2

RootVegAndMash · 11/02/2024 21:24

Princesspollyyy · 11/02/2024 21:20

Your daughter will be in year 6
Your son will be in year 4

These are both wrong.

I wish people wouldn't answer when they clearly have no idea. You'll just give op doubts where none should exist.

Birdsworth · 11/02/2024 21:24

Well this is helpful Grin

Why is that a food thing? Missing the high school applications.

Daughter will go into year 5, moving to year 6 in September. Son will go into year 2.

ISeeTheLight · 11/02/2024 21:27

I don't know about your son but my daughter is 2 months younger than yours and 1st sep 2013 - 31st Aug 2014 borns are currently in year 5. Year 6 from September.

RootVegAndMash · 11/02/2024 21:27

Secondary applications take place in Autumn of Y6.

I think the poster just means you've missed the dates this year so it's a good thing she'd be in Y5 this April.

ISeeTheLight · 11/02/2024 21:27

Re secondary you apply in September of yr6 for secondary schools, so you will be in time for this for your daughter.

Littlebean13 · 11/02/2024 21:28

My Nephew was also born mid sept 2013 and he is currently in year 5. Your dd will go into year 6 in Sept of this year and then start high school sept 25.
Your ds will be in year 2

PuttingDownRoots · 11/02/2024 21:28

@OztoLdn as in you've missed this years, but it doesn't matter as shes got another year in Primary school. Whereas if she would be in Yr6, she would do one term in Primary, then go to secondary school . But you would be on waiting lists for a spare place.

PatriciaHolm · 11/02/2024 21:31

You haven't missed secondary applications for your DDs year - the comment was alluding to the fact you would have done so should she be in year 6 when you arrive in April, as applications are done in autumn at the start of year 6 -so you need to apply this coming autumn.

Missing the application dates means being allocated a school after all the on-time applications, which in many areas means getting the much less favoured schools.

TheHennaHairedHarridan · 11/02/2024 21:32

Your daughter will be in year 5.

That means you will need to apply for secondary schools in September, and it's good that you will be in the UK for the deadline. If your daughter had already been in year 6 this year, and you had to apply late for secondary schools then you would have been at a disadvantage and have less choice of schools.

SushiSushi · 11/02/2024 21:33

Currently Y5

@RootVegAndMash

Sorry, I realised as soon as I posted that it was incorrect, but I could not edit it unfortunately.

Have you never made a mistake before? 🙄
