I'm looking for a tutor for my son for 8+ exam prep - with a view to taking exams in Autumn 2024 at schools such as St Paul's, WUS and Kings Wimbledon. Key focus is English, but support with Maths welcome too. Any recommendations appreciated.

They charge £200+ an hour, which is what I was quoted. Which I think is ridiculous.

From metal rocks.

"Our tutoring rate is £300/hr and the first step is a 3hrs assessment followed by an hour feedback for total of 4hrs."

yes - that’s what they told me….totally ridiculous.

@Caps0218

😂 We were told 3 hours weekly sessions were recommended. To do that for 32 weeks of term time, that's more expensive than a prep school's whole year's tuition fee.

And the holiday sessions are also recommended and should be added to the program!

Caps0218 · 07/04/2024 20:31

The fact that all of this was told to you before any meeting to see where your child is at should tell you they are just after money.

Proper tutors would actually assess and then tell you what is required, some will say you don’t need anything.

If they need tutoring at 8 to get into a school consider whether they are actually suited to that school.

Hi just wondering if you were able to find a good 8+ tutor. We are considering the same schools for 8+ this year. Many thanks

Hahaha - I also contacted metal rocks once and was so confused by the £300 I asked them if they had added a zero by mistake. They never replied 😂
