Manor Lodge vs. Radlett Prep

Hi Guys, we are deciding between Manor Lodge in Hertfordshire and Radlett Prep...
Both are fantastic schools. ultimately we will not be able to afford secondary private school education so I would prefer to send them to the school that prepares them better for state grammar school...

Any opinion/ knowledge on this would be so so helpful.

Hi all so applied for Radlett Prep and ML and thankfully my LG has got in to both. I am so torn between the two. I love Manor lodge facilities etc but RP got a real family feel and is so much more convenient for me and ML would be a struggle for work commute. I have friends with kids at both who are both positive. Anyone also starting either rec 2025?

We applied to edge grove, manor lodge and rp.

Once my DD got into edge grove we cancelled radlett prep as it was our least favourite and was there purely as a back up.I think EG must been having internal issues as their head has just resigned. 5 head in 5 years sounds a bit strange!!

However we have been accepted into manor lodge and will be taking that offer. It seems much more nuturing, better facilities and evenly split between boys and girls. I got the impression that it was much easier to get into radlett prep and they were never at full capacity.

It's so hard to know which school to choose when there are so many good ones in the area.

You could always go revisit the schools another time before making your final decision

We’ve had an offer from Manor Lodge and think we will accept but are concerned about the commute and how we’ll manage as two working parents. The school is very much in the middle of nowhere and from where we live in NW London, it’s a 20 min drive on a good day.

Does anyone know if there’s a school bus? Or is it a case of everyone simply manages to drive there and back everyday?

The current head has resigned? That’s interesting. We loved the school when we saw it but didn’t apply in the end as we heard a few things about how the new head had changed the school and when we met him, we didn’t warm to him (though admittedly we may have been biased after the feedback we had from others). Fortunately we have a place at ML so no need to overthink it, but EG is a lot closer to us and would have made life a lot easier if there didn’t seem to be issues at the school!

@DiamondForever we are in the same boat as you! Both my husband and I work and will be finding it very tricky to drop the kids off. I’m hoping to find other parents in the area who will be sending their kids to ML and come up with some sort of agreement of taking it in turns
