dd is four this november should i be doing anything actively now to get things going?

You should get sent a pack out I would think, in October. To start in school 2009.

I don't think you need do anything.

She could start at a school nursery in September, but she doesn't have to if you don't want. Does she go to pre-school? I think the application period for September nursery is now tbh. Not 100% sure. The best thing to do it call your local education department. Don't fret if you've missed it, its not essential and you may still be able to apply anyway.

School applications for September 09 (which is when she legally has to be in school) is usually this time of year too. I have found that you can get the 'Starting School' booklets from the local library, if you don't fancy phoning anyone.

Obviously worth noting that different authourities, do it at different times! Phone your own department or look at the council website, actually! You can do that right now to put your mind at rest!
