Best tactic for early school teaching?

Hi all,

I have a son who is 4 almost 5 years old in year R at primary school. I know all parents say this he is very good in reading but advanced in maths. I just quizzed his maths and he already knows almost everything for year 1 and he is only 1/2 through year R. We don't do too much additional studying maybe 20 mins here and there but he is a kid that likes to learn and has great imagination.

He does say school maths is easy, so should i be talking to the teacher about giving him more advanced stuff or is it too early? I mean he only just started school but i what him to be challenged and not get bored.

Also i'm wondering should i start focusing him home learning more on recognizing patterns and solving puzzles? My thought process is he would develop additional non academic skills which would help him in the future and learning. Is this a good idea?

Thanks in advance all and hope your doing well :)

I’d speak to his teacher and try to see if there could be additional extension work for when he’s finished the class work.

Solving puzzles etc is a great idea and helps loads.

Look at games too that involve maths that you could play together. Monopoly, genius square, telling the time, money match cafe to name a few.
