School assessment scores Vs 11+ success

I wonder if those who have children that passed an 11+ exam could share their child’s maths and English assessment scores in Y5.

I know it all depends on preparation/type of child/type of test etc, but I’m just curious.

My daughter got 124 in English and 123 in Maths. I wonder if this means she has a chance of passing…with the right guidance.

We are in Trafford.

Thanks in advance for responses

What school assessments are you referring to? Do you mean CATs? It also depends on the schools you are applying to for the 11+. DD did well in the 11+ (we only looked at independent schools bc no grammers close by). She had no scores given in year 5 at school. They always did a gap analysis twice a year, but they did not give scores. For year 5 she was GD for math and English.

Thanks for replying. My daughter is working at GD in Maths and English and CATs are the tests I’m referring to. Although, I don’t think all schools do these.
I have heard of some kids who passed the 11+ getting 130+ (CATs) so not sure if that’s around what is needed to pass an entrance exam.

Ah yes, that CATs usually help give an idea of how they will do on the 11+. From what I understand scores above 128 for CATs for academically competitive schools. I get that figure based on Atom scores, which they say for the 11+ mocks should be above 120. And they say for the CATs equivalent you add 8 to your Atom scores. All sounds very confusing. But anyway, if your dd has not started prepping and you want her to do the 11+ you need to start tomorrow! Many would have started at the start of year 5. But don't worry....all is not lost. My dd only started end of May in year 5 (bc we only decided last minute to do 11+) and she got into the schools she applied to. The scores she had for her Atom mocks for math ranges from 130s to 142. English tended to be slightly lower at 120s to 130s with the rare 142. These were the scores she had for mocks a couple months before the exam. You could try to sign up to Atom learning for a free trial and do some mocks. But be aware scores arent the best first try and go up as you cover the curriculum (but if your dd is in private she has probably already covered the curriculum).

Hi! Daughter passed the 11 plus last year (2024). Our test was based on maths, VR and NVR. Daughter was assessed as GD in English in Year 5 (has been throughout primary): not so for Maths. Initially we were abit worried as the exam didn’t include this so didn’t necessarily play to her consistent strength. Our 11 plus exam didn’t cover maths beyond the 5 curriculum (more so worded problems); I note the mock exams she took from April did, so we focused on the year 6 maths curriculum for about 4 months after that. It’s helped enormously with the SATs the year though: the kids who took the test have covered the material. My daughter came out of the exam and was confident she had passed because the maths was significantly easier than anticipated. She scored well above the pass mark overall. As others have commented though, it really depends on the area you’re taking the test in. Our area has a fixed pass mark which hasn’t changed in several years (236 out of 282). The LA were very set on that maths would be based on the year 5 curriculum but would be more in depth: mock centres tested beyond this. Hope this helps, and it sounds like your daughter is doing extremely well :)
