I'm not hot housing ds for his SATS, it's just that he's 1 mark off a Grammar School place in Maths only (he's dyslexic and did brilliantly) and I'm looking for evidence of positive stuff in his writing - vocab, adjectival phrases blah blah - as I know presentation will be picked up in his appeal and I want to defend the content.
I know it's by a woman and downloadable for free but googling hasn't got me anywhere!
Thank you.

Have you seen the Ros Wilson Big Writing?
She advocates the use of V = vocabulary (ambitious words the child would not normally use in writing)
C= connectives to make sentences more interesting

O= openings to catch the readers interest

P= punctuation
we adopted it in my school and it had an immediate impact on writing levels (half a term )

There are 4 distinct strands to writing and to achieve a good Level 5, all should be secure.

These are:

  1. The skills associated with the mechanics of writing:
  • Neat, accurate, joined handwriting
  • Accurate grammatical structures
  • Accurate spelling (both phonics and sight words) of all except the more complex, unknown words
  • Basic structure of sentences, shown by accurate use of punctuation and capital letters
  1. The skills associated with development of the ?writing voice? (not previously taught) and the strength of Big Writing:
  • VCOP to level 5 on the Criterion Scale
  1. The ability to respond accurately to an age appropriate stimulus.
  2. The ability to use and apply the characteristics of the required text type.
