DS2 (reception) didn't have a teacher today, just the classroom assistant...is that allowed?

DS is in a class with 2 teachers who jobshare. They both have young children and often take time off because their children are ill. DS has been know to have 5 different teachers in a week one week.

Today they didn't have a supply teacher, just the CA and an LSA who looks after another child. Surely this isn't right?

Yes it is allowed in an emergency for a limited number of days.

Sometimes it is much better for a class to be looked after by adults who they know well and who know them espeicailly when they are so little).

I expect one of the TAs was a higher level TA (HLTA) and this is allowed. They are allowed to cover teacher's planning time too.
But it is not a satisfactory situation over a prolongd period of time as HLTAs no matter how capable do not tend to do the planning side of lessons.

Ok, thanks for letting me know that. The CA is actually very good, so I had no worries about her ability but we seem to be going from having too many teachers to none at all. I keep saying to myself, it's reception, DS is doing well and exceeding his targets so I will not worry!
