School week in Aberdovey (Outward Bound) - advice?

My son, age 9, is going on an Outward Bound four night trip to Aberdovey later this month with his Year 5 class. He is nervous about many aspects - getting wet, sleeping, being away from home - but he is somewhat willing to go.

Can anyone suggest any advice or tips especially if your own children have been on this type of school visit. Thanks.

My eldest went last year. He loved it and it seemed like all his friends did too. I think they provided all the main waterproof clothing and walking boots and they have a drying room. They will send you a list of things you need to take closer to the time. Kids will be in small dorm rooms so should be with some friends. Clothes to take is mostly fast drying stuff like fleeces and sports clothes that wick away moisture rather than jeans etc.

Stash of bin bags for wet things to go into his bag.

Make sure you pack the bag together, so he sees where things went. Helps when it comes to finding things, and also packing up again at the end.

Layers for pyjamas. It will either be freezing or boiling, with no in between!

Don’t talk about how much you’ll all miss him - talk about how excited you’ll be to hear everything he’s been up to. Don’t hide sentimental notes in his bag, he’ll find them at the worst time (speaking from bitter experience).
