When was your appeal hearing, and do.you know how many appeals were being held for the school?

The Independent Appeal Panel makes its decidsions after hearing all the appeals.

Decision letters should be sent out, 'wherever possible,' within five school days of the hearing (or of the date of the final hearing, if appeals are being held over more than one day)(School Admission Appeals Code October 2022, para 2.1(d)).

The Clerk or the Chairperson should have explained at the hearing the timeframe for decisions to be sent out, though.

Primary applications don't even close until January.

Clerk said in the beginning that they will tell u decision today and u will receive letter in 5 school days .

Unless there are multiple appeals and the hearings are spread over several days, the panel will always make its decision on the day of the hearing. Unless there is good reason, the decision letter must be sent within five school days.

Presumably, this appeal was a mid-year one, then? Hearings are held throughout the school year, whenever required.

@Yus did the Clerk definitely say that you would be told the decision on the day, or that the decision would be made on the day, with the letter being sent within 5 school days (this is the process I am familiar with - no decisions are communicated other than by letter - sent as an email attachment in the particular authority's case - sent at the same time to both the school / LA and the parents).

As said above, unless there were a number of appeals for the same school, The panel would have made their decision on the day.

However, it would normally be sent out as a letter - I know some LAs will call or email the decision, but many don't. It's possible the decision was made but by the time the Clerk was all finished up it was after their working day, so they didn't have time to communicate to you, but it also might be that they got it wrong in terms of you being told before you get the letter.
