On 7+ threads its almost mandatory to tutor from Y1!
We hope to try out for 7+, (private schools) we're in London. DC currently at state primary, a so-so rated 'good' school, 28 in the class, under-resourced, undersubscribed school, in Reception. We'll be trying for Preps and Junior departments of all through schools (which I imagine will be tougher than the stand alone Preps).
The school is in a relatively deprived area of London, lots of challenges for the hard working teachers, so often DC tells me of the disruption in class and imitates the teacher stressed out with her dolls as the children.
I just want to equip her with a decent shot at a top school. Local state senior school alternatives are Harris , Harris , Harris where I live. I have a few friends from Uni days who teach and tell me horror stories about Harris. I'm sure she'd be OK, but grandparents on both sides have agreed to help if she gets through with fees, basically by giving us some inheritances early. We're floating around the cut off for bursary income wise for most London senior schools.
Anyone who has gone this route, middle of the road State Primary to selective private Prep/Junior
We want to start formal tutoring from Y1, but how much is too
much? An hour not enough? Should that hour be split into two 30 mins chunks ?
