What has your child been doing in reception?

My child doesn’t give much info on what they’ve done in the day in their reception class. Anything I’ve found out has mostly been from other parents. So, I’d love to know what your children have been doing, especially if it’s links to videos etc that we can use at home or as a convo starter.

A couple of bits I know - Danny Go exercise videos and The Big Number song - both on YouTube.

A new phonics letter/sound monday-thursdays, with the RWI letter sheet sent home on a friday to practice along with the ditty sheet.

Numbers they seem to be focusing on 1 or 2 numbers a week

Thanks! I’ve printed out the phonics scheme they school is using and he instantly engaged with that so I’m letting him lead with the sounds they’re using.

Do you take them to the classroom or get to look through the window? I used to have a good look round to see what was out on the tables, so I knew some specific things I could ask DD about.
You're often doing well if they can remember anything apart from the hometime story and what they ate for lunch.

Never went into a classroom with DDs.Always dropped at school gate. We all did. They brought home books to read after around 3 weeks. In the days before endless phonics though. I didn’t ask them all the time, as in daily! Just a chat every so often. I knew the names of the naughty DC though and always heard about them.

Miss Phonics on YouTube can be used at home to link with phonics learnt in school
