We are strongly thinking of moving our child from a prep school to Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School in Wanstead. Would appreciate some feedback and reviews of this school. It is an in-year application so my child will be joinin in year 3.

It’s a lovely school. If you ask on the Facebook group Wanstead Community Hub you’ll probably get some more detailed feedback, even just via PM.

I was wondering if there’s any recent updates on how OLOL is?
@DadWithAPram did you end up moving your child?
Also, are there any families from Leytonstone with children attending OLOL, or does it sound like a bad idea? @JustASquareMoreChocolate would you happen to know? Thank you

JustASquareMoreChocolate · 18/04/2024 17:45

Yes there are families from Leytonstone and even Leyton (RC if that far). Happy to be PM’d

@ohmysense there are children from Leytonstone attending. We looked at it ourselves but after having a meeting with the Head we decided against it. She warned us that if our child was diagnosed with SEN then the school may not be able to support her due to not living on the borough. I spoke to another mum whose child had been in that position (living out of borough, child with SEN and attending OLOL) and the child had been off-rolled. I'm not really sure whether it was legitimately due to issues in service provision across boroughs, or if the Head has just decided that the child didn't "fit" at the school, but it was enough to put us off.

It's a shame as it does seem like a really good school otherwise.

@HellesOrganicLager Thank you, that is such a valuable insight! I would have never thought different boroughs could cause trouble with accessing services or funding...
I hope you were able to find a welcoming school for your little one. Did you go with one of the Leytonstone primaries?

JustASquareMoreChocolate · 19/04/2024 10:58

I have a child with SEN and live out of borough. It is phenomenally difficult to get cross-borough provision and we were given the same warnings by all the out of borough schools we looked at and SENDIASS. Which is a frustration but seems to be basically just another reason for the LA to say no to funding (which they are very stretched for). To be honest the actual LA offering either way isn’t fantastic so we are out of borough and pay externally for additional support, which works for our child but may not for others.

Yes we did. My child hasn't started yet but I did lots of research so happy to share any info I have - feel free to PM me 🙂

I have 2 kids there. Great school. Well run. I find head supportive if there is an issue. Booster classes every day for kids who need extra help in subjects. Lots of after school enrichment clubs. 2023 SATS results were outstanding. Likely to be rated outstanding at their next ofsted. I'd recommend to anyone.

Hi all, just an update on this as I didn't know that other people had repied to this thread. Yes, @ohmysense we did end up sending our children here and it was one of the best decisions of this academic year. The school is excellent and both my children are thriving here. The head teacher is one of the best that I've encountered and the staff are happy and nurtured here. This all creates an excellent environment for the children. I think you should be ok to be from Leytonstone, as I have a friend who comes from Walthamstow for the school. The schools reputation is strengthening month-to-month.
@HellesOrganicLager its unfortunate that this is the case, but I would be incredibly suprised if the head was behaving nefariously -- she is a very compassionate lady and it would be totally out of character if she did this. I really hope you managed to find a good place for your child in the end.
