Hi ! I am preparing my DS for 4+ exam at Highgate School , does anyone know any insights about how they examine a child and how to best prepare him ? How the schools selects children , I've heard that they also select according to nurseries that children attended and post code , any information would be helpful.

Hi, thanks to everyone on the thread. We have gone through the 4+ mainly to try and avoid assessments later if at all possible and if not to find somewhere that puts pastoral care front and centre to help mitigate the stress. Just wondering though - does anyone with more than one child have a sense of how stressful the 7+ and 11+ are for the child (and parents!!)?

I’m just trying to understand how horrid the exams are later on in terms of making a decision in due course. Ie is it worth choosing a school that goes to 18 just to avoid the damn things? Or will they end up doing them / getting caught in the stress of it from their peers anyway, so better to just go with the prep that seems ‘better’ / best suited / most convenient? And/or are some good schools which only 7+ 11+ so it’s cutting off some good options?

thank you for all the tips and good luck to everyone.

Does anybody know if there's been movement on the 4+ waiting list?

Try the thread listed above - we have a place and are likely to accept I’m afraid but I someone has just released a place. Good luck!

Is this a joke or is that actually expected in these scenarios at this age? 4???!!
