When should I hear back about school place?

I applied for my son to switch primary schools within catchment during the summer term. He's going into y4. Was told I'd hear back beginning of August but haven't heard anything. Council website says you should hear back within 2 weeks but it's been a few months. I've called and emailed but no answer (assume due to holidays).

Does anyone have any experience of this? I need to know which uniforms to buy and everything!

I'm in London btw

you won't hear til after term starts, might be worth ringing the school a day or two before the start but not reliable. start back at old school.

The 2 weeks would refer to 2 school weeks; its unlikely you'll get any results before schools go back now I'm afraid. Were you given any indication before you applied that there was a space available?

@PatriciaHolm They said they didn't know yet and that things move around right up until school starts back

Well there's no guarantee, assume he's going back to old school unless you hear differently. But don't bother buying new uniform yet.
In most schools, the office is staffed over the summer, so phone again after the bank holiday.

Then basically that's your answer - you are unlikely to hear before the start of term I'm afraid.

I'm in the same situation, but different county. I feel your pain. X

We applied for a different school to the one allocated in August, we have had it confirmed that our son has been given a place by the admissions authority for the school but obviously with the office being unmanned all summer we haven't heard directly from the school.

They are back for a training day tomorrow before reception starts on Tuesday morning for a couple of hours a day until a full day on Friday. Hopefully tomorrow we'll be able to make contact and find out which class he's in etc, we've been able to get the right school jumper from the supplier.
