I'm so pleased - it's goodbye to the dreaded sight words till Year 3!!!

Huzzah! DD has just learnt all her sight words for Years 1 & 2 and we won't be plagued by the weekly testing for two years! Sooooo pleased and relieved (for me AND her!) Thought I would share a good news story re school!

what are sight words?

I mean the KS1 high frequency words

we don't do spellings in our school ... they pick them up on their own

was the bane of our life, as they had a weekly test until they could read them all confidentally. so, am delighted that is NO MORE as it used to infuriate me...

My son has never had sight words to learn except for the tricky words in reception.

Dd is in reception and gets a long strip of words to learn to read. They are called world box words, and do not appear on the high frequency reception words list.

Oh well....

I don't remember ds doing them, formally at least, in year 3 or 4. Will be interesting to see what happens to dd when she is that age next year .

btw dinny does your dd still dance on a Sat -looks like we may have to move after Easter and might observe a class first.

yes, she does still dance today. first exam in spring, eek!

Think she'd join the existing ones, about 11.30 ? They're stopping Modern in school time and some of her friends already do the Sat Tap anyway. We've just had notice of Ballet exams next term.

dd is at the 9.30 class, think they separated school and non-school...

is the 11.30 with Miss T or Miss I?

afaik Miss T but the Modern class (Yr 2 on Tuesdays) has been Miss I recently , actually since we found out about it changing . Was thinking of adding Tap as if we are disrupting our Saturday it may as well be for an hour an half rather than just 45 mins. Ironically they can do a different dance class, back in school time, come September. tbh there are now so many private lessons going on now I think they are overstretched.

dd's been getting on really well with Miss I, wasn't sure at first but she seems pretty good.

not too impressed with swimming atm, how are you finding it? they are doing some two classes in one madness, annoying!

Ah now swimming is going really well atm . ds is in a "group" of 2 but has had at least 2 1 to 1's this term so can't complain really. dd went up after Christmas to a middle depth group and I was worried cos it is the same teacher ds has had for a while and she can be tough on them , but she readily swam 15m front and back from deep end yesterday so happy with her progress.

we're still wallowing in the shallow end!

well, whichever list our school uses, it covers up to Y3. thank goodness.

the old list was part of the NLS which was scrapped and replaced by the Primary Framework which schools should be following now. I would question a school still using the old lists.
