Bute house registration for 7+

We are very keen to sit for Bute house 7+. However this is a recent decision for us and therefore we have not been able to register earlier. As the website says they only invite the first 200 girls for assessment (which starts building three years in advance from the ballot), I am keen to know if there is anybody who registered their daughters for assessment only a few months before the assessment and were still called for assessment?

just call the registrar and ask them?

Foxesandsquirrels · 10/08/2023 10:57

If it's a ballot, the date of registration doesn't matter.

Marisquita · 10/08/2023 11:28

@Foxesandsquirrels it isn’t a ballot at 7+. They run a ballot at 4+ and the unsuccessful applicants are often then registered for 7+.

@user1481129388 my DC were born in high birthrate years so that wouldn’t have been doable. But the demographics have changed a lot, so you may be in luck. I am sure the Registrar will give you a steer one way or the other.

Call the registrar - she was very helpful when we wanted occasional places.

I think there is slightly less competition than their used to be - although still tough to get in at 4+. We got in out of the normal entry points. First my eldest and then a spot came up for my younger DD.

It is an incredible school. We feel so lucky we got our DDs in. The ethos is very special and unlike any other prep I have come across.

Thanks everyone. School is currently closed so will call the registrar once the school reopens

@LondonBuses which years did your DDs join? were they years between 4+ and 7+ or after 7+ please?

LondonBuses · 14/08/2023 11:35

One joined in year 2 and the other year 4. There weren't places at the same time though. We have to move one then the other a few months later. But so worth it. I am not sure if there are still spaces. I think we were lucky with younger DD as someone left the school. The Year 3 classes are larger, my DD will have 23 in her class. So maybe they top up the other year groups now the maximum is higher.

Seeing all the articles about Wetherby in the news makes me thankful. Bute is the opposite... about learning things properly, not rushing, no testing or grading, lots of emphasis on self-motivation, kind pastoral care and even lessons dedicated to wellbeing, minimum pressure... but gets the results. My DD has progressed so much since joining and my mindset on education has changed too. It is very different from the culture I come from.

I would email even if the phone lines are closed.

I agree with the advice given, contact the registrar as she is super helpful. We only registered our daughter at the start of September last year and there were still places available for the assessments. She started Y3 at Bute this week and she couldn't be happier. So best of luck!

It is certainly worth the chance. I would call them and ask what the deadline is. Bute house is in a league of its own and if you get a chance to take the assessment and get a place it is without a doubt the best London day school. It is not a pushy school and it really is true that they do not compare your child to others but with this being said they still get amazing results. Good luck 🤞🏼

Rejected in the first round of Bute should I call school and request for a second chance? Did anyone tried that before. She was unwell, I should have not attended the exam. Any comments.

user1481129388 · 13/01/2024 16:33

Can someone kindly share any details of Bute house second round interview? What do they try and assess at this stage?

Of course not. They have hundreds of children take the test to see who would fit in with the kind of academics they teach. If your child didn’t make it through the first round then it isn’t the right fit for your child. Please don’t put your child through that. It also makes you look like a very pushy parent and that is something they avoid. Yes it’s an amazing school, yes they get amazing results but why would you want your child in a school that they can’t academically keep up.

Just be yourself. Nothing to prepare.
