Best school trousers?

My DD's starting school soon. I looked in M and S but the trousers all seemed a bit scratchy or were very slim fit and looked more like tights on. Where's good for school trousers?

DD had some nice paper bag ones from Next last year and also the more flared type from Asda

Look for the ones that have strengthened knees and elastic waistband that allows changing size with the button

I’ve tried M&S and John Lewis and like them both. M&S is cheaper and very hard wearing. They are scratchy to start but soften up with washing

M&S.

I have skinny children and they fit well at the waist whereas supermarket ones are usually massive.

John Lewis are softer but they don't hold the crease very well, this years M&S trousers have never been ironed and come off the line / out the dryer looking like new.

M&S are also double hemmed so you can let them down, rather than replace after a growth spurt.

M and s do a variety of fits. We have used them for ds since nursery (going into year 9) only ever had to get rid of when he has outgrown them and always good enough to pass on

DS used to wear Engelbert Strauss ones for Reception. They are quite robust and had already seen him through nursery.
He's now moving into Year 1 and wants more "normal" jeans-type ones.
