Reading age

DD is in Y5 and in her most recent report it noted her reading age is 15:07. Can anyone help me what this means? Is it 15 years old and 7 months? Seems rather high, but I don't know the age related reading expectations in Uk as this is our first year in this country.

What does reading age mean? Is it simply deciding or comprehension as well? DD's school uses accelerated star reading.

*decoding, not deciding!

Accelerated reader do two types of tests, the ones they do after reading a test which will give them multiple choice questions on the book they read to test comprehension. The star reading tests I haven't seen in person but I believe they are given random passages and questions to test their comprehension that get more challenging throughout the test.

15.07 is 15 years 7 months not massively unusual for bright children who have been encouraged to read. DD got 16 at a similar age and I believe that's the max...unfortunately she's never been particularly fond of reading.

Reading Age measurement still in Y5? In our school they evaluate reading comprehension and RA was something usef in earlier years. Yes, it is 15 years. But Reading age is only a means on decoding text but doesn't mean that a pupil knows what she/he is reading.

Reading age on most tests mean decoding.
Comprehension if often scored differently.

All that would tell me as a teacher is they are a confident reader, who reads a lot.

Star Reading assessments look at comprehension. Take a look at a sample question.
