Any inference in KS2 SATS papers?

Just wondered if anyone knows whether the questions on the KS2 SATS papers have any inference in them? My year 6 son recently did an “assessment” at an independent school and they gave him some papers to do, maths and English, which required “inference” and he struggled with them. I didn’t see what papers he had to do so have no idea what the questions were like, but the teacher he did them with said it was the inference in them he struggled with.
He has just aced his SATS so I’m wondering how different the papers he was asked to do at the “assessment” compared with the questions on the SATS papers. The independent school is not academically selective and has a cohort who generally need extra support and aren’t academically high achievers.
So just wondering if the discrepancy between his performance in SATS is down to the lack of “inference” in the SATS papers or the heaps of preparation his school gave him for the SATS.

Yes, they do. I had a brief skim through this year's reading paper and counted 6 inference questions meaning you could get every inference question wrong and still get greater depth.

23 out of the 50 marks available were from content domain 2d which is the inference domain. So it is a major component of KS2 SATS.

Thanks for your responses. I suspect my son’s performance at the “assessment” was down to it being an unfamiliar environment and not having been prepared for what they were giving him. He has ASD and ADHD, but I can’t help feeling that he was set up to fail by the school who set him the “assessment”.

The whole of the reading papers include inference. Some questions you need to infer just to understand the question. I don't think inference is a weakness for your child.
