My son is off to school in September, he's on the small side so needs trousers with adjustable waist as 4-5y fit in the leg but are far too big on the waist, I'm struggling to find any 'easy on' trousers (without zip, button, metal fastening) which can be adjusted in the waist. Does anyone know of any?

Have you tried the supermarkets?
Asda little trousers tend to be just elastci waist.
They also do smaller than school age eg age 3-4

Marks usually do a skinny size, so same length but small round waist.

Peabody25 · 13/07/2023 13:35

Marks and Spencer's do them like that! www.marksandspencer.com/2-pack-boys-adaptive-shorts/p/clp60099727

www.marksandspencer.com/2-pack-boys-regular-fit-adaptive-trousers/p/clp60450526 and they've got a 20% off school clothes offer on at the moment as well.

M&S slim fit should be ok. The smaller sizes are pull on and they have an adjustable waist (with the button and elastic inside the waistband)

Relaxinghammock · 13/07/2023 13:56

Try M&S long or extra long trousers so you can size down on the waist to 2-3 or 3-4.

OxfordshireMumOf2 · 13/07/2023 13:57

thanks all, i'd looked in supermarkets but they only had a small selection, maybe too early! will go to M&S :)

My local m&s didn't have the longer fits in stock and I had to order online (I have a tall beanpole so getting the length and width correct is tricky!) All the younger m&s ones are pull on so you don't need to bother about easy fit ones.

Jemimapuddleduk · 13/07/2023 14:30

Yes marks and Spencer adaptive clothing range, they go right up to teen sizes too. Pull up, elastic area waist and adjusters too.

DancingWithYouInTheSummerRain · 13/07/2023 14:34

We had the same when our eldest was in reception, we found Tesco slim fit the best, they were elasticated waist and slightly slimmer legged. I will see if I can find a link to them.

DancingWithYouInTheSummerRain · 13/07/2023 14:37

They are in store only now, but I would def try there, Asda also do a slim fit, but unsure as to what their fit is like....my 2 are in the Asda regular fit now.

IamSallyBowles · 13/07/2023 23:21

Next slim fit did it for us

Mickz · 13/07/2023 23:41

I bought the M&S slim leg trousers in a slim fit and they’re perfect for my skinny boy. They have the extra 3cm hem for growing room too. They’re a great fit.

Invisimamma · 13/07/2023 23:43

Asda online, buy a size down but get extra long length. Slim fit.

OxfordshireMumOf2 · 14/07/2023 08:24

I'll check M&S thank you everyone, great idea about size down and extra long leg too! appreciated :)

ASDA also do a longer leg length, which may not help now but is fab for my late primary beanpoles.

staypuftmarshmallowwoman · 14/07/2023 08:32

I'd second Next slim fit pull up trousers. They have adjustable waists.

Starburst8 · 14/07/2023 08:35

Asda does adjustable waistband in school trousers aged 3/4 & 4/5 not sure if they go beyond age 5 though.
I got some the other week for my son, maybe try online if they're not in-store.

TeeBee · 14/07/2023 08:40

I always used School Uniform 247 or M&S for my slim boys. SU 247 has lots of combinations to choose from and the quality is good.

mastertomsmum · 14/07/2023 08:44

We always found Asda the best for simplicity. I think they usually do have a little front fastening whether they are adjustable waist or elasticated back. However, it is one little central clip not too complicated like some brands. All this assumes they haven’t changed style in the last 18 months since we stopped buying them

Doveyouknow · 14/07/2023 17:14

Both m&s and Sainsbury's trousers have adjustable waists and are pull on in smaller sizes. Both also last well..

MrsOnions0 · 14/07/2023 17:16

H&M pull on with adjustable waist

seathewayahead · 15/07/2023 08:23

Check the uniform guidance. My sons first primary just said black shorts so he wore soft pull on elasticated waist ones from next. The school he is moving to says tailored shorts or trousers so we’ve had to get something smarter but he’s also older so less fussy about the waistband. He still hates the scratchiness but I found him cotton ones in John Lewis which he is happy with.

Olive2022 · 22/07/2023 19:50

M&S slim fit and they have adjustable waist bands my son has just finished reception, he could easily fit a waste 2/3yrs but the length then doesn’t fit and they have been perfect for us.
