Hello everyone. We are relocating to Dorset / East Devon area next summer and exactly where we buy will be somewhat determined by the schools and where has space as my son will be moving into Y2. We are looking around the Sidmouth, Branscombe, Beer, Colyton, Uplyme, Lyme regis area. Does anyone have any experience of Branscombe primary? My only slight concern is that it's tiny, only 24 pupils in the whole school, i'm not sure if thats a bit too small perhaps?! Or Tipton St John primary near Sidmouth. We like the sound of Mrs Ecclestones in Lyme regis but they are full so would have to go on a waiting list. Any experience of these gratefully received! (or any other recommendations!) TIA x

I think the primaries in and around Tipton were v oversubscribed this year. A friend who lives between West Hill and Tipton wasn't able to get any of her nearest 3 schools. Not sure why they were so oversubscribed as generally it's a low birth year so most primaries around east Devon are undersubscribed this year.

Also idk how you feel about driving/the school run but Branscombe has a couple of roads in/out of the village and they are very long and in lots of places both single track. I'd find it very frustrating to have to drive in and out of Branscombe twice a day! I don't know anything about the school itself but would probably only consider it if I lived in the village/it was my closest school.

Hi @orangeicelollies thank you for the reply, yes this is also at the back of my mind! We are going down there in a couple of weeks and will drive it but from memory i remember it being quite narrow and steep as you say 🙈. It seems a lot are oversubscribed so finding good ones with space is tricky. I've spoken to Tipton and they do have space so its on our shortlist!

There is an allocation spreadsheet online which shows the spaces available vs spaces allocated so you can see more widely which ones are undersubscribed without contacting all the schools, will link below. Sometimes it asks me to sign in (I don't work for Devon County Council so don't have a log in) but if you keep trying it will let you see it, not sure why!
