Should have I applied for a place - year 3 primary school-

After thinking I know this my husband has just caused me to have a complete panic

Did I need to apply for a year 3 place when my child already attends the primary school.

To make this clear this school is called "Y primary school" it is one building and not called infants or junior.

I thought I didn't need to apply as it's not an infant school going to junior school but now I'm doubting myself and panicking somewhat

Help!

If the school goes through R-Yr6 then no you don't need to apply for another school place when your child moves into year 3.

What makes your husband think you need to reapply?

LittleRebelGirl · 28/06/2023 19:42

No.

If it's a primary then you don't have to apply. If it's a separate infants and junior school (with separate heads/management) then normally you do - though it's a bit of a done deal that the infants get a place in the juniors.

No need to panic all will be fine - next application process will be secondary school which is in the autumn term of Y6.

As he started reading a paper article about top 10 schools most difficult to get into in our area and it was on it, he then said did we apply for year 3 place?

Which has me in a panic as I started doubting myself. I mean I would like to say the school would have reminded us that we needed to apply but knowing our school I can't rely on that!

The school does go r-y6 so you have put my mind at ease.

Why are you doubting yourself? You're right, you don't need to apply. Trust me if you needed to apply then the school whatsapp would have let you know and the school would have told you multiple times about applying for a junior school place. Grin

If a through school then no, no need to reapply.

If it is two separate schools, an infant and juniors - then yes, you reapply.

My school is an infants and parents reapply for the junior school - same name with 'junior' exchanged for the infant and on the same grounds but two totally separate schools with own headteacher, own staff, own rules, etc. most children go to it, though there is always a handful who go elsewhere.

You'd usually know about it through school too - we send letters home and information packs, from the LEA and from the Junior school next door.

Surely by now you’ve had some communication about his move to year 3? Who his teacher will be etc?

Bringitallbacktome · 28/06/2023 19:47

Well I would like to think the school would tell us but the amount of times we've had a text the night before to say there's some trip happening or something. I rant alot about the school communication to parents.

Thank you all for putting my mind at ease. I appreciate it.

We did have to. Infants and Juniours has separate Heads, Admin and Governors where we are.

Hi everyone . I have a kid who goes in reception at a primary school. I would like to know if i am late to apply for a year one place or i dont need to reapply as he is going still to the same school??

spanieleyes · 19/05/2024 05:58

Reception to year 1 is automatic, no need to apply for a place. You don't need to worry now until you start thinking about secondary schools!
