Primary school choice in Guildford

Hi there

We are moving to Guildford and are very excited about the move. We are trying to decide which primary school we should choose for our little girl - I narrowed it down to 2 options - burp ham and boxgrove. I know both have excellent reviews, with burpham classed as outstanding by ofsted.

Can you please share your experiences since it’s hard to decide which option is best but might help if someone can call out any differences between schools.

Many thanks in advance.

I don't have experience of either school but wanted to say that you may want to take into account where you will be living. The traffic in Guildford can be horrific around school times.

It is a lovely area, with some beautiful countryside for bike rides and nature trails. Boxgrove has its own swimming pool (I believe) whilst Burpham goes to the Spectrum. Out of the two, I would go to Boxgrove on that basis alone!

HTH, I'm sure others will have more insight soon. Also think about posting on the local pages.

Thank you, very useful advice. Will definitely reach out locally. I also heard that it’s a bit easier to get into boxgrove than to Burpham. It’s a tough choice! :)

Will you be applying for a place for September 2024? It will depend on whether you meet the criteria for a place and whether you’re in the catchment area if the schools have them. As well as the admission criteria, please take travel into account, because as PP says, it’s very busy.

When you apply for a school place, you’re expressing a preference, not choosing, because it depends on whether you meet the criteria and if you’re applying for an in year place, whether there are spaces in your preferred school.

@Annas1237 which area of Guilford are u moving to? I am also considering Guildford as well as many other areas

We moved to Burpham because of the school. We are 0.3 miles from it so really hoping we can get in. 🤞 we will be applying this year and she is starting school in sept 25.
btw traffic can be pretty horrible during school times and parking can be a nightmare.
