Yr 6 leavers songs. I'm already a blubbering mess!

Dd is leaving primary this year. Last night she told me what songs they are singing. One was forever young and the other footprints in the sand. They are changing the lyrics for some bits.

Both those songs make me well up on a normal day. I sobbed at the McDonald's Christmas add a few years back. Footprints in the sand was played at a friends funeral but dd didn't go so shouldn't affect them.

What am I going to do? I know other parents will shed a tear too, but I'm worried I will embarrass dd by being too emotional.

Honestly I'm dreading it. I'm going to be a mess. Dc1 was a mess last year as a Y5 saying goodbye to all the Y6s.

I was listening to a few songs the other day and Natasha Bedingfield "Unwritten" came on and I just thought it would make the most perfect Y6 leavers song, then I was imagining the whole class singing and just started crying. And it's not even real.

Y3s are singing "What Have You Done Today" is it M People? That's gonna break me.

To be honest, if your daughters school is anything like the one I work at, not only will the parents be crying, the children, the year 6 teachers and TAs plus other staff that have worked with them over the past 7 years. And that includes the office staff.

Last year, they even managed to make out HT shed a tear.

Honestly don't worry about crying, it's highly emotional, it's the end of an era. My 1:1 is year 6, I've worked with him on and off in an OT as well and a TA role since he was in year 1. I'm already feeling highly emotional with 5 weeks to go

DD and class sang "When I Grow Up" from Matilda. Better than the crap Take That her brother did! 😥
