Reading apps resources for KS1 boys

Are there any reading apps or books, resources suitable for boys who don't enjoy/find reading difficult? Year 1 child making slow progress so reception level. Not my own child so I don't know much about his interests.

I'm not sure what an app would / could do, but I would suggest

• continuing to read to them every day

then, it would depend on how much difficulty they are having as to what else to do, but some children prefer reading joke books or facts or comics or magazines about whatever it is they are in to.

It's really quite difficult to answer, without knowing what level they are at.

Nessy is great and used in schools.

We used Reading Chest book subscription for early reading. They do levelled books right the way through and have lots of different schemes to choose from, including Project X, which I believe is geared more to boys. You can even have a pot luck selection sent to you (of whichever level you choose) or select which books you'd like to receive next.

Having taught KS1 for many years, I am certain that boys and girls benefit from the same support and resources so I definitely wouldn’t get hung up on him being a boy. I don’t have any tech suggestions but I have always advised parents to allow children to explore reading in several different ways: visiting a library and choosing anything you want, listening to a bedtime story, reading to an adult, parallel reading where both the adult and child enjoy their own books, reading comics / magazines, incidental reading (menus, street signs etc).

Reading eggs or teach your monster to read are both effective apps to try!
