I've messed up- haven't accepted school place!

I received my offer of a reception school place for my son and was very happy. Tried to accept but the website kept crashing. Forgot about it and now I've realised I've missed the deadline to accept. So angry at myself. Now I can't do anything until Tuesday but I'm worried I've ruined my son's chances of getting a place.

Is your school usually oversubscribed? Ultimately they won't leave him without any place but def get onto them Tuesday

TeenDivided · 06/05/2023 18:30

Have you tried accepting it now?

Broadly speaking (not an expert) I think they can't (shouldn't) withdraw the offer without checking with you first.

The portal won't let me accept. It just says- contact admissions. I've sent an email and I'll call on Tuesday. Really hoping they don't give his place away. I was thinking that they would have to tell me if they were going to.

Do you need to accept the place? Our primary admissions website says if you're happy with allocated place you don't need to do anything, but let them know if you don't want it, or need to appeal.

I wish this was the case but no. It said I had to respond by May 1st.

I though my they had to contact you to check before they could remove the place. If you haven’t had an email or letter I wouldn’t worry too much about it yet.

Thank you guys! So difficult not to stress and ruin the three day weekend. The school will have a waiting list so just hoping I get to speak to someone before they give the place to someone else.

Our local authority chases people who haven't responded in the week after the acceptance date. They are going to do the second tranche of offers this Friday. So if your LA works the same you should be able to sort it on Tuesday.

lorisparkle · 06/05/2023 19:02

I had a phone call from the admissions office asking me if I wanted DS2's place at secondary school. I had completely forgot to accept the place! They said it was quite common. Fingers crossed it will all be OK for you too.

springlike · 06/05/2023 19:05

I work in this field and would always contact you rather than assume you didn't want it. I have to send my acceptances back to our local authority soon, 11th May I believe. So, not straight after this weekend. I'm sure you will be fine.

Chukara · 06/05/2023 19:14

Thank you so much for all taking the time to reply. It wouldn't seem fair to give the place up without making an effort to contact me so fingers crossed it all works out.
I'm aware they are starting to do second offers from Tuesday though so just hope I get in there first.
