Chances of place at first choice?

Advice appreciated! DC is 7th on waitlist for our first choice primary school for reception this September. I know it’s a guessing game but does anyone have any experience to share of getting a place from wait list? Is number 7 terrible odds, or is there still a chance? School admits 60 kids per year.

We were 6th on wait list for ours last year. We did get a place but it was cutting it fine with starting (the school is always over subscribed and a 60 intake per year). We were originally offered out second choice which was a 90 intake.

Of course you can never predict these things. However one thing worth noting is you don't necessarily need 7 children to decline their places. Right now people are likely to say yes to a waiting list place. Nearer the start, once meetings and induction stuff has started, some parents above you on the waiting list may decide to stick with their offered school. Good luck!

I’ve actually just started a thread with a similar question but we don’t know what number we are on the waiting list until Monday
how did you find out sooner?
it’s so stressful and i would love to hear positive stories!!

Is it an affluent l area with a nice private school locally?
kids intending to send their kids to private would have also applied to state. So will likely drop out between now and September

I know several kids that got into our school on a waiting list (no idea of the circs of who dropped out) very late in the day eg 1st september when admin staff came back to work after the hols

In my case yes, there are multiple Private schools and I already know people who have dropped their places in a different school (also local) due to going private

I called the local authority admissions office and they told me. You should be able to do the same I imagine. Good luck ❤️

Don't forget you can go down as well as up the list.
