Please can someone tell me how much of the multiplication time tables (and divisions) should have been taught at this stage in year 2 please ?
our school is following the Singapore maths and it’s not clear to me as very different from traditional methods
thanks

2s 5s and 10s in Year 2, not sure where that comes in Singapore maths though.

In the French system, you do all of them up to 10 in year 2, because that is the year you do multiplication and division. My understanding of Singapore maths is that you start to learn a few in year 1 and most in year 2.

2, 5 and 10 for our year 2s.

2s 5s 10s and some
more able children should have had some exposure to 3s.
3s questions do come up in SATs - eg in fractions

Our school expects 2s, 3s, 5s, and 10s. 3s are the hardest and is taught after the others; the teacher dissuaded parents from going to 4s unless the DC had a very good understanding of the previous ones.

My DD is Y2 and she's done 2's, 5's, 10's and 3's this year :)

Dilemma19 · 03/05/2023 10:07

My ds did up to 12 times in YR2. That is however needed for the 7+ . I would think it's the basic ones like 2, 5, 10 otherwise?

highlanbott · 03/05/2023 15:38

My son is in year 2 and has done 2/5/10 in school but he can do up to 12 times by himself.

Iamsodone · 03/05/2023 21:51

ok thank you !

Ours also did the 7+ so we did more but 2s, 5s and 10s. They can also learn 3s pretty quickly.

The national curriculum for Y2 is 2s, 5s and 10s as well as skip counting in 3s. Not many incoming Y3s are proficient in these though in my experience! (They are fine and go on to learn up to 12 x 12 by end of Y4).
