Help! Rupert House or Godstowe

Hello,

Please help us decide between: Rupert House in Henley, or Godstowe in High Wycombe, for our two daughters?

We like everything about Godstowe but the location is a tad further from us (25min drive) and based in High Wycombe, which we don’t spend much time in, so don’t really know well at all.

We love the location of Rupert House but for us the facilities don’t seem as impressive as Godstowe understandably as it’s a town centre school.

We feel the teaching/academics/extra curricular at both schools will be excellent, and would consider them on par… Godstowe is all girls mainly and RH is co-ed but we aren’t too swayed by that one way or the other.

Can anyone help us make this tricky decision?!

Thank you 😊

What sort of schools are you considering when they leave? Many girls stay at Godstowe until 13 and then head to boarding schools, although some do leave at 11. Rupert House sends children predominantly to local day schools.

@FruitandNutty
They are very different schools. Godstowe girls mostly leave at 13 and go to boarding schools. Some do leave at 11 but some go to Bucks grammars and a particular local
day school where going at 13 isn’t possible. You need to have a plan at post 11/13 to choose.

It won’t be 25 mins to HW in the rush hour and term time. My DD went to Godstowe and it should be 20 mins. We took 40 mins most days. Check how long it tries to get there on time in the morning.

You don’t need to know HW. You just need to understand the traffic! DD had friends from the Marlow/Hambleden area so parents did make the journey. Are you in that area?

Thanks so much for the replies! We would be looking at day schools for them both after primary. Good point on the traffic into HW - I have done two test drives (yes we are around the area you described) and they took about 25mins but it was a ‘tricker’ drive with more turns and all those HW roundabouts! Our house is bang in the middle of RH and Godstowe though distance wise. I don’t know if it’s enough to just make this decision based on traffic 😂

No, of course not. However if one school was 5 mins and another 45 it could be relevant. I would, frankly, use the prep that feeds the schools you want. What day senior school? Bucks doesn’t have many! Then see if Godstowe girls go there at 11. If the Henley school is a feeder, that’s your answer. I don’t actually know the Henley school but destinations of DC are key. Godstowe has a certain usp which, in general, is not day schools at 11.
