Hill House School

Hi everyone, new to mumsnet but hoping to get some insight from current Hill House School parents. My daughter is due to start in Year 5 this sept (moving from US). I am a little concerned that there are very few girls (I believe only 3-4 in her class). Has this been an issue for anyone? Worried she will struggle to make friends in school. Any insight or feedback would really be helpful?

From the two parents I know, they ended up taking their dc out of schools in the same situation. One was a girl at Hill House and one was a boy at a different school, but it was the opposite and only 4-5 boys in the class and many girls. I would not like to be in this situation and I think it is not ideal for my dc either....unless you get lucky and they really like 2 of the dc at least. It is nice to have variety though.

How many kids are there altogether? If the classes are small anyway, I don't think this would be a problem. Presumably she'll only be there 2 years.

@SamPoodle123 Thanks for this and very interesting to know someone else was in the same position with Hill House

@Dodgeitornot you’re right only 2 years and around 11 to a class so it is small. I really like Hill House otherwise but worried that she will be joining in Year5 so may struggle to break into already established friend groups

@BritishAmerican79 I think breaking into groups is harder in bigger classes. Smaller classes mean kids are very used to welcoming everyone. I would worry about this less than if she was moving into a big class tbh.

That’s a good point @Dodgeitornot!

@BritishAmerican79 I don't know what the boys are like in that class but my DD was in a class of 10 with 2 other girls. She didn't like either of them and was really good friends with a couple of boys. Tbh it was perfect as girls can be really horrid at that age so I can see how the other way around probably would be harder.
