Highgate Pre-Prep

Would love to know if anyone has any experience of Highgate, particularly the pre-prep. What is the pastoral care like? How many children to a class? Is it very academically ambitious? Lots of other schools tout teaching a year ahead as their academic selling point, but I worry about gaps in learning, particularly in Reception/KS1.

Any parent experiences would be very much appreciated!

Hey, I’m after the same info. What I do know they’re super selective and normally extend offers to children from certain nurseries around NW3 and the adjoining areas. If you do some research on the nurseries, you’ll often find info how many Highgate offers have been made for 4+. Of course, I’m sure lots of bright and capable children would be admitted no matter where they went!

I have a DS currently in PrePrep at Highgate (reception). I would say that it's actually not that academic at all, surprisingly - very nurturing and a lot of learning through play. I am conscious that compared to his peers who will all be coached for the 7+ he will be at a lower level going into Y3 but apparently they all catch up fairly quickly. I think there are 24 in a class - three reception classes in pre-rep this year.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Do you mind sharing where he went to nursery? Thank you!

haven't you you recently asked about parents experience with Highgate prep on this and other threads because you were looking to join the school?? i remember typing a reply to your post which i perhaps forgot to post 😀

anyways.... Highgate prep has a decent teaching standards and teaching staff but its not pushy in sense that it doesn't need to jump ahead of the program as its not preparing children for 7+/11+ entry. so the program and the teaching approach is different from say Hampstead Hill (prep prep). all through schools that start from 4+ (UCS, South Hampstead, etc) are all similar in this sense.

The current prep prep Head is leaving the school after 5 years so there will be a new head from next academic year, dont think there will be a massive shake up though as the current Junior Head (who remains in her position) has a strategic oversight of both schools

The poster above first asked in February how Highgate Prep is as they consider it for their child, then deleted the post and put another message a few weeks later saying that they (apprently) have a child in Highgate Prep and they dont like the school for XYZ reasons and then... deleted their post again after i quoted it 😂

Just as a warning to other posters that any comments on Mumsnet should be taken with a pinch of salt....
