Dear Current or Future Pointer School Parents,

We are writing to ask for your advice about whether Pointer School would be a good fit for our son, who has been offered a place in reception.

We understand that Pointer has a strong Christian tradition, and we are wondering whether this would be a problem for us as a non-Christian interfaith couple from India. We are open-minded and non-religious in our approach to education, and we are looking for a school that will provide our son with a well-rounded education that includes both academic and moral development.
We have heard that there have been some changes at Pointer in recent years, including a change in ownership and some changes in staff. We are encouraged by the new principal who stressed that the role of religion is limited to their focus on teaching morality through stories from the Bible.

We would be grateful for any insights you can offer into whether Pointer would be a good fit for our family. We are also interested in hearing about your own experiences at Pointer, both positive and negative.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Izingaari

Hi, I visited Pointers this year - I didnt like it at all! - classes, library and playground, greenspace all so small. Basically school is like large victorian building. And yes has a strong Christian which we dont prefer for our daughters.

My daughter is starting reception at Pointers this autumn. We also looked at and had places at Heath House and Blackheath High. I found Pointers quite charming and I like their ethos about building good people not just good students, and was impressed with the school head. Heath House felt too small for us. I have a younger son and I’d like them to be at the same school which ruled out Blackheath High. I will say that Blackheath High had incredible facilities and I was impressed with the students there (in case you have daughters as well). My sense is that all the kids who go to the Blackheath private schools end up going to the same kinds of schools for secondary, so I would go with the one that you feel comfortable with. When we walked in to Pointers I felt like it was the right fit for us, but it’s a very personal choice. I am Christian but my husband is not, btw.

I also visited Pointers for my daughters few years ago. To be honest, for private school I found the building too small and narrow (library, classrooms, stairs, outdoor space, corridors etc). One of my daughter had offers from Pointers, Blackheath Prep, St Dunstans, Colfes, Eltham College, JAGS. JAGS was too far so in the end we went for Blackheath High as our daughters liked it a lot in taster day. Taster days and open days helps a lot to give right decision.
However, if you visited Pointers and liked the it go for it. Its not bad school but I don’t think its the right place for everyone as its looks like it is strong religious school. Good luck x

I cannot speak highly enough of Pointers School in Blackheath.
Our 7yo was at Pointers in Year 3 and he absolutely loved it. he came home happy and was always excited to go to school.

The teaching quality is excellent, and what sets this school apart is their ability to tailor the educational experience based on each child's strengths. They truly understand the importance of nurturing holistic growth for the children, and it shows in every aspect of the school.

Both the head teacher, Mrs. Crooks, and the class teacher, Mrs. Churchill, were absolutely amazing. They provided a supportive and encouraging environment that allowed my child to thrive. The academic focus at Pointers School is comprehensive, and the work ethic instilled in the students is brilliant.

The school's campus and facilities are top-notch. The facilities are well-maintained and provide a conducive learning environment. The children feel welcome and the number of clubs and options for extracurricular activities is truly impressive. The school places a strong emphasis on arts and physical education, offering a wide range of sports options.

I must mention the parent portal app, ClassDojo, which is simply amazing. It allows for seamless communication between parents and teachers, keeping us updated on our child's progress and school activities. The overall staff and communication at Pointers School are flawless.

Even the school food deserves a special mention. It is simply amazing and encourages children to widen their food experience and palette. The school's commitment to providing healthy and delicious meals is commendable.

In conclusion, Pointers School in Blackheath is an outstanding educational institution that goes above and beyond to provide a well-rounded education for its students. The excellent teaching, tailored experience, nurturing environment, comprehensive academic focus, top-notch facilities, and wide range of extracurricular activities make it an exceptional choice for any child's education. I highly recommend Pointers School to any parent seeking a quality education for their child.
