Does anyone know if this year is a high or low birth year (for children starting school this September -2023)

Nationally, lower as a result of the pandemic but that may not be true at a local level.

But children starting this year were born Sept 18-Aug 19?

where are you? birth rates are declining each year. London boroughs are facing quite a few issues with falling rolls.

Takeachance18 · 20/03/2023 20:26

Low birth rate nationally, but local factors like developments may put pressure on numbers at individual schools.

yes it's very location specific

Nationally its a low birth year and this will be the general trend for quite a number of years compared to the recent past. Rolls are falling and this is particularly problematic in London which is having to close schools because of the demographic trends.

DD was born summer 2018 and started reception September 2022. Was a low birth year. We applied for a 60 intake. Only 29 places were offered to those with no ties to school due to 31 sibling intake. Really depends on who else spies and categories they fall into.
