School applications

My son starts primary school in September, and since submitting our application I can’t help but feel I’ve made the wrong choice. I would rather him go to our 2nd choice school. If he got into the first choice does anyone know if you can reject the offer and see if the 2nd choice has space? 😩

You can change your preference up to a certain date so check the portal first.

It was the 15th Jan. Places are being released in 4 weeks.

You should be able to go on the waiting list.

But don't reject the offer... you could end up with no school

You need to accept the first school and go on the waiting list for the second school.

You would probably be best waiting for allocations to come out then going on wl. Changes now will mean your application would be treated as late and only looked at after April. Don't reject the allocated place as that may leave you with none for September.

Discuss with the LA, explain you will accept the first but want to be swapped/put on the waiting list for the second.

Also remember unless youve heard the head is running a child labour camp, you kid will most likely be ok in any decent school. What is the reason for your change of heart?

Wait until offers come out. If you get your first choice, accept the offer and ask to be placed on the waiting list for your second choice. If you reject the offer your council doesn't have to come up with another offer for you. Rejecting the offer does not make any difference to your position on the waiting list for your second choice.
