hi,
I would like to get a gauge of the Y2 spelling words/lists at your DC’s school. I think our school’s spelling words are way below the required standard.

Can I please request for an example? A photo is fine if it saves typing out.
Thanks

Page 7 of this Government document lists the spelling rules and common exception words that are expected that a Year 2 child should know by the end of KS1. There are example words but in year 2 there isn't a statutory list.

The Y3-6 words are statutory.

Some of the CEW alter as it can also be somewhat dependent on the Phonics scheme the school is using.

Schools will also chose words that they see their pupils consistently spelling wrong in their school books.

Whilst children may be getting 10/10 in spelling tests if they are not then using these correct spellings in their class work - be it English, History, Geography, Science, etc. - then they don't really know them and why some schools will go back to words from much earlier sounds/rules and redo them in Year 2.
