Anxious Wait..

Anyone else anxiously waiting until April 17th to find out which school your DC will be going to in September?

I guess my main anxiety is coming from the fact that I haven't applied for our catchment school (many years of being 'Inadequate' and just a very bad reputation - I also know of quite a few parents personally who have pulled their children out). I applied for a local school which is actually closer to us than our catchment (go figure...), which just had an amazing feel about it when we went for their open evening, as well as two other local schools. I'd be happy if we got any of our 3 choices, but I just have this horrible gut feeling that we're going to be given the catchment school.

Any tips on how to get through this next month without completely losing my mind?!😂

I remember being pretty anxious even though we were practically guaranteed entry (probably because we’d moved to an area for the schools at quite an expense, and if we didn’t get our catchment school it would be massively likely you’d end up a long way away as all very local schools were usually full with catchment children).

Pretty sure I had a countdown on an app like I’d have had for a holiday!

No words of advice, because no amount of people saying “you can’t change it” actually helps.

If you don't get any of your choices you won't necessarily get your catchment, you'll get whatever is left once they've done all the allocations people actually chose. In my area they do try and offer nearest with spaces in that case but usually there's only 2-3 with spaces and they're bunched at one end of the borough.

Me! I'm thinking about it too much. We chose 3 local schools but we're in a very oversubscribed area (think loads of new builds but no new school). Like you our catchment is the furthest school from us but we listed ours as 3rd. Would much rather 1 or 2 but oh well. I knew people last year that didnt even make their top 3 so I'd be grateful if we do!

I was pretty much on egg shells from November 2020 to April 2021 whilst we were waiting to find out if our DS got into our first choice of school.

He went to the nursery there and we loved it and so did he.

We are just out catchment for it, our catchment school is not good and I didn't even put it down as a choice.

It's a huge school in a good area and I was so relieved when the email came through to say we had got in.
