Primary schools in Bath

Hi everyone,

We'll be moving to Bath (Widcombe) in a couple of months time. We have a 5 year old who will need a reception place - transferring him from where we live now. The two nearest schools (Widcombe and Moorlands) are full in reception.

Where else should I be looking? I really don't want to have to drive to school - walking would be ideal but that looks like it might be out of the question now. I'd consider getting an electric bike and cycling to school but I'm a little under-confident with that idea. If needs must!

If anyone has any insight or recommendations I'd be really grateful. Happy to consider private if necessary but a good state school that isn't a nightmare to get to would be wonderful.

Hi I'm based in Bath with primary kids! Pretty much most schools in Bath are fab so don't worry about missing out on Widcombe/Moorlands. It depends what side of Widcombe you are but I'd also consider the primary up at Mulberry park and Combe down primary which are supposed to be good. And though up hill could be walkable depending where you're based. Most places are an easy walk here and often schools will have spaces come up (I know a few who've transferred mid year) so you could potentially get into your chosen school later on.
I'd also recommend joining the mums in bath Facebook group which is full of fab advice!

The Moorlands school OP is referring to is a the one in Bath, not Leeds.

OP, I went to Moorlands (Bath), but many years ago now! I think it’s best to visit the schools and get a feel for them, as you will get lots of different opinions on here.
