Reception application

Our son is due to start reception this September. However it looks like soon we are having to move areas to live with my parents.

We have currently applied for his reception place with our current LA back in October. If I was to also now apply for a reception place with what will be our new LA will both applications be processed with each authority or will the two neighbouring LA’s speak to each other and cancel the first so he is only offered one school place come april.

any ideas?

I think London has a unified system (which may also include Surrey) so if it's there then probably. If it was somewhere else I'd be surprised if government computer systems talk to each other.

You can only have one application and you apply to your home LA even if the school you want is outside that. Once you've moved you can contact your new LA with your new address and sort schools.

Alternatively if you're still close enough to your preferred school and you might move back to the area you can just keep going with your current application.

You are too late now to make an application that will count as on time, so any new application will be processed after the existing applications have been sorted out. This means you will be allocated a place at a school that has places left once all the on-time applications are done.

So in reality it matter little whether you apply for the new area now and cancel the old application, or wait until allocations day, and then open a new application with the new area, unless there is a school in the new area that is always undersubscribed and you stand a good chance of getting that quickly when you move.

If there is any doubt about the move, I would keep the current application and then re-apply in the new area as soon as you are certain it is happening.

Thank you all,

I was wondering if I did apply through the new LA without withdrawing his current application that I submitted on time to the LA we live in now would the two make each other aware some how & the first application would be cancelled anyway or can I do both?

The new authority are happy to take the application and us give the proof of address once we have moved.

thanks again

It would be a late application for new la anyway. So not much to be gained by switching now. You cannot have both running.
