Academic pre-preps and preps in Totteridge or Mill Hill?

Hi,
our 2 sons (4&1) both have secured places at Hampstead Hill school, which is supposed to be really good at preparing for 7+ exams. The long term plan after that was to try to get them into good north London based prep schools at 7.

However, with house prices being what they are, we are now thinking of abandoning our original plan to buy in Highgate or Hampstead etc, and considering moving out further north.

Would either Totteridge or Mill Hill offer similar quality pre-prep (i.e. preparing for 7+) and later, prep schools for boys?

If you move to Mill Hill you have Goodwyns and Belmont which is the prep school for Mill Hill School. You also have school coaches to the schools in Hertfordshire such as Habs and Aldenham and others. Property maybe cheaper than Hampstead but it is still not cheap.

Thanks. Property is a bit cheaper, I agree not massively so but the 30% or 40% discount versus Hampstead Garden/Highgate is substantial enough for us to consider the move.

I haven’t looked much into secondary yet as older son is only 4 now. Pre-preps and preps are our focus now and honestly I can’t find much on the internet about those in the area. Belmond was mentioned as not being very academic, our son is obviously very young but he does seem to enjoy numbers, educational stuff on youtube, etc, while being introvert and not very sporty - which makes me think an academic school could be best for him.

I would think the best choice is to see if you can get him into a school where he can stay till he is 18. The competition gets harder at 11. Have you thought about UCS?

UCS is in Hampstead, so if we were to consider that, we might as well consider all the other Hampstead schools we’ve been looking at… I was hoping to find decent schools in Barnet/Totteridge/Mill Hill…

@newbieLdn Crouch End, Muswell Hill and East Finchley (not so nice) are less expensive than Highgate and Hampstead. Many children travel from those areas to Hampstead preps.
