Sutton primary schools

My son is 2 and a half so will be starting school in sep 2025. I was wondering if anyone could recommend good primary schools in the Sutton area. I know it's a good area for schools but would love some specific recommendations. We live right near abbey primary school in rosehill but happy to go a bit further. Has anyone got any first hand experience of abbey primary school? Thanks

Have you looked on the Sutton website? They have a distance checker that tells you which schools you would have got in to in recent years. That way you can find out about schools you have a decent chance of a place at. I don't know that specific school to offer thoughts unfortunately.

Hello I’m new to mumsnet and needed some suggestions. I’m planning to move to Hack bridge in Sutton and I’m looking at a good primary school for my son who is in year 5. Any advise which schools I should consider? Also I’m not sure if an academy school would be better than a state community school? Any reviews on how is hackbridge primary school and Harris junior academy? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I was also wondering about good primary schools in the area. It's a shame there aren't any recommendations or people with children attending some of these schools who are able to provide feedback.

We've seen a few now and put our application in. We had no recommendations, just looked on Sutton council site and booked viewings at the closest. We're in between Sutton and Merton so we've looked at both. I can't say any of the schools have been bad.

You just need to view kors to get a feel for them and ask lots of questions.

I have viewed a couple and will look at a few others. It's helpful visiting and asking questions but it's also good when you can hear about the experiences of parents with kids in the schools to hear about the day to day or any issues or things you wouldn't necessarily pick up on a visit!

To be fair, as per your original post and questions, Abbey Primary did seem quite good.

Abbey is our first choice!

People often ask on the local fb page but the reality is it depends where you live - you need to use the distance checker to narrow it down as so many will probably be out of catchment.

A number are also church schools which really do require church attendance.

VonWeasel · 06/12/2023 16:49

The distance checker is useful. I asked at All Saints re the religious/free places and I think they said they aim for a 50/50 intake but actually it is more like 60/40 (40% being religious).

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 06/12/2023 17:26

@VonWeasel which all saints is that? Last I knew carshalton was 80% church 20% open.

VonWeasel · 06/12/2023 17:52

@Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky All Saints Benhilton. I thought it might be a higher intake of religious places but apparently not. I guess they aim for higher and then it depends on how many applicants there are . . . I guess the religious aspect isn't for everyone either!

Did anyone visit Westbourne or have any thoughts around this school?

We did. It was our fourth choice on the application. Lovely school. Just out of the way for us! Would have been a first choice if we were closer. No breakfast or after school clubs though. Very well organised. The tour was a bit rushed though.
