I am useless at Parent's Evenings

It's tonight and I know I will come away with loads of things I wished I'd asked.

What do you ask?

Last time DS1's teacher told me that her only concern for him was that there weren't enough bright children in the class for him to "bounce his fantastic ideas off". At the time I took that as good news that he was bright, but now I wonder if I should be asking the school to do something about it. I have been very pleased with the school, but it is true that the ability of the other children might be higher if we were in a more middle class area. I have no intention of trying to move school though, so what if anything should I/they be doing?

He is bright, but I wouldn't say he's a genius or anything. His year2 spellings this week include friendly, pattern and nephew, which he has found quite easy. Although this is the top spelling group in the 2 combined y2 classes, I have a feeling from things I've seen on here, that they could be more demanding at another school?

Just like some help so I've got something intelligent to say this eve please.

I think you should ask about giving him more challenging work in school. I don't think teacher's comments about the lack of brightness of other children was really appropriate - it's not their job to educate him. Does he get bored with the work he does?

The teacher will give me his/her view of what's happening with my child in school.
I ask if my child seems happy, whether they appear to be having any problems socially or academically. If my child is happy and not having any problems then I'm happy with that.
If my child has voiced any concerns to me then I would bring those up.
Doesn't usually take long if there are no problems.
