Relocate Indep Schools Surrey/Sussex

Hi All - we are looking for more space and rural living with two boisterous boys (7 yo Y3) and 4 yo Reception). They are currently at an indep prep Catholic boys school in Wimbledon but we are open to Co-ed. By the time we manage this move - our eldest may be in Y4 so not looking to move him after Y6 or have the stress of 11+ exams after this move. A prep school to Y8 or All-through school or certain senior school feeder is appealing. My DH is mostly remote and I may need to travel to London a couple of days a week. We are also conscious that we would need to be near a bit of a larger town centre for holiday camps, specialist activities and perhaps things to do when older.
Just looking at options but in Surrey Whitley/Haselmere seems attractive- The Royal School or we have friends who have just joined Barrow Hills which feeds into King Edwards (?). In Sussex - I like the option of Scared Heart in Wadhurst as more affordable but I think it stops at Y6 so would have to consider seniors around there. DS1 is smart, artistic, dramatic and quirky with lots of interests but currently not shooting the lights out with academic results. DS2 has only just started and I think needs a bit of structure and had boundless energy.
Any advice or ideas of how others have approached this would be much appreciated. Schools researched seem to say a lot of the same things. We need one with strong values where kindness is valued as highly as sport/academic excellence.

Barrow Hills / King Edwards sounds like a really good fit.

The Royal has restructured and closed sites so much over the last decade or so. I don't hear great things.

St Edmunds if you think they are much less academic and need small classes, loads of support and extended prep type feel to the senior part.

I'd also look at Churchers all through, Highfield 13+ prep, Aldro 13+, Edgeborough/ Charterhouse
Another part of Surrey but Duke of Kent all through, Ripley Court/ Reeds

Be aware 13+ involves the actual entrance exam (usually ISEB) and interviews in year 6 and then sometimes common entrance in year 8.

Super helpful - really appreciate the feel from ‘on the ground, JumpPup

What did you end up thinking @CountryConundrum? I have heard rumours The Royal School is closing but nothing I can see online. Did you look at Bedales or Churchers?

Cranleigh Prep and Cranleigh school have a good reputation and parents of DC I know are really happy with the school. Lots of lovely little villages locally but close to Guildford and 40 mins from London? Worth a look?

Sorry, should have said I only know parents of DC in the prep school. They do plan to send them to the Senior school though.

If you are looking for a quirky, arty, cosy school, Frensham Heights might be worth investigating.

Thanks so much - will check out those school suggestions! All still in progress

Hi Does anyone have any up to date information regarding the Royal?

Another vote for Churchers

Hi Does anyone have any up to date information regarding the Royal?

They shut the prep school in the summer. Secondary school seems to be fine. I’ve heard good things.

Thanks what have you heard- I am looking at senior school year 7 at Royal or ST Edmunds it seems very nice and very forward but there seems to be a lot of changes going on.
The ISI was excellent but that was including prep school which then closed.
It seems a small senior school but has sixth form and I wonder if it delivers the variety of learning.
