We’re potentially looking to move to a different area closer to family.
dd1 is in reception, if we moved it would be before dd2 and dd3 needed to apply for primary schools.

it’s possible dd1 will get a primary school further away than the catchment we’d be in. The school is ‘good’ and seems nice. The one we’d be in catchment of is ‘outstanding’ and also really nice.
If dd1 gets the further away one (long walk, probably drive it)… what would you do about dd2 and dd3?
we might not have that long between moving and applying for dd2 so not sure we’d get a sense of the schools. But for logistics I’d assume we’d try and get them all in the same place. Dd1 is quite sensitive though and not sure we could relocate and then move her to the closer school when a place became available if her sisters got in?

Thoughts?

Bump…
also they have sibling criteria above distance.

When is DD2 due to start school? An alternative approach would be to move before the application deadline for DD2, name the Ofsted Outstanding school for her, then try to move DD1 in September as sibling priority if the school prioritises siblings in its admissions criteria; that is if she hasn’t gained a place in the previous AY.

I’m applying for dd2 in January 2025 for a space in September 2025. If we move I’d like it to be within next 12 months so dd1 would have nearly 2 years at whatever school she’d get put in before dd2 would start!

In honesty, you can’t count on getting a space in any school and you won’t know what school you’ll be given when you move (unless you’re local enough to get your oldest child there immediately to take up a place offered).

Also, a lot of schools use the sibling priority rule only for younger siblings so worth double checking it would actually work backwards.
