Hi there,

I am looking to defer my child who will be 5 in the June 2023 and due to start Primary 1 in the August. She has a medical condition so has missed a huge amount of nursery in the past 18 months due to hospitalisation and also being unwell at home. We shielded her during the first year of covid as we weren't sure how covid could impact on children with her condition but after a year we were more confident and I was able to return to work and she started nursery on time age 3. I am asking for deferred entry to P1 with the full support of the school and nursery but I am really struggling with the application. Can anyone help me with the advantages of another year at nursery and disadvantages of going to Primary one having missed over half of the ante preschool year and portion of preschool? So far I'm thinking -

Lack of confidence
Had less time to learn
Not had enough consistency to get into a good routine

She is also very small for her age so another year would mean she would be taller and not the smallest in the class but would this be an acceptable reason to list?

I'm going to include evidence such as a letter from the consultant detailing her illness and her hospital admissions over the past two years

Any help of advice would be much appreciated as it's all a bit overwhelming!

Thanks

some ideas that come to mind:
What’s her speech like?
Vocabulary?
Understanding of language?
Emotional maturity?
Resilience?
Levels of tiredness?
Social anxiety that a familiar environment can support her with for a bit longer?
Building friendship groups that she can move up with (if they are likely to?).
