Lady Barn House School

Hello all! I’m considering Lady Barn for my two children. I visited not expecting much as I’d heard it is a bit of a hothouse and very academic. I’m not against that but my children being happy and supported is my main driver. I really liked it and it didn’t ‘feel’ like a hothouse during my thorough tour, but the reputation persists. Does anyone have personal experience you could share with me? I’m concerned it might be too much of a stretch for them. They are both bright but not academically gifted!

It's not a bad journey from the Heatons, usually it's quickest to go past Waterside rather than all the way on the A34. It's a wonderful school!

Squisha82 · 06/04/2023 13:50

@LBHSisgreat thanks, we’ll try that way too

FrodisCapering · 06/04/2023 16:42

@Squisha82 I think we may have met your husband at the nursery open day! I'll have one in nursery and one in Reception.

Can I ask any current parents - where do you park? It looks like there are very few spaces on the school site. We'll probably be picking up around 4.15 each day. Any tips for the best road to park on?

Nboo · 06/04/2023 17:39

@FrodisCapering we park on side roads on the other side of School Lane. There is a lollypop man and the kids get house point tokens if they use the lollipop man in the afternoon.

Squisha82 · 06/04/2023 18:08

@FrodisCapering Haha, really! Tall with very short light hair? (Cannot think how else to describe him!)

FrodisCapering · 06/04/2023 18:47

@Nboo great advice, thanks!

@Squisha82 is there a Spanish or South American connection? My husband was talking for ages with a gentleman who lived in the Heatons and had some Spanish connection. My husband is Spanish, which is why it stuck in my mind!

Squisha82 · 06/04/2023 20:15

Ah no, not him! My husband was talking to someone who lived in Didsbury for a while though, so good to know not everyone is Cheadle based

FrodisCapering · 06/04/2023 20:57

@Squisha82 we are in Didsbury! Maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick! I thought my husband was chatting to someone who spoke Spanish but it was defo someone from the Heatons.

LBHSisgreat · 06/04/2023 20:57

If you're arriving at 4.15 you'll always get a place in the carpark, don't worry.

FrodisCapering · 07/04/2023 08:59

@LBHSisgreat that's good to know, thank you.

Squisha82 · 07/04/2023 13:10

😂 my husbands recollection of the person he was talking to involves Didsbury and a law firm…. It’s not a lot to go on!

FrodisCapering · 07/04/2023 21:01

@Squisha82 neither of us are connected to law so maybe not my husband, although you never know what random line of conversation it might have been 😂

Well, I shall look out for you at the forthcoming events...if I come up and say "Didsbury. Law." You'll know it's me!!

Squisha82 · 08/04/2023 11:11

Sounds like a plan. I’ll say ‘’Heaton Moor, not Spanish’’ 😁

FrodisCapering · 08/04/2023 21:04

@Squisha82 my husband says that the little girl of the guy he was talking to had a name beginning with O.

Anyway, sounds like a plan! I am sure our paths will cross soon!

GC30 · 15/05/2023 14:48

We're starting in September too and will be driving from Altrincham everyday, so right there with you on the unconvincing drive front! Can't believe they start so soon😱

FrodisCapering · 15/05/2023 20:41

@GC30 will your child be starting Reception?

GC30 · 15/05/2023 20:42

@FrodisCapering he'll be starting nursery

FrodisCapering · 16/05/2023 14:55

@GC30 our children may be in the same class! My youngest is starting nursery and eldest Reception. My husband was at the information evening the other day but didn't get chance to really chat to anyone.

Both of mine are really excited about starting. I think the school has been great with the forest school sessions, school bags, books and Barney owls.

GC30 · 16/05/2023 14:59

We are really late to the party. We have just taken the last space, shame we have missed so much, especially the forest session, my lb would have loved that but looking forward to the stay and play, hopefully meet you or your husband there! The school seems amazing. So glad i found this thread too, always nice to speak to other people starting

FrodisCapering · 16/05/2023 15:54

I will be at the stay and play...I think it's on a Tuesday for nursery, isn't it?
Glad you got that last space because it looks like a wonderful place for children!

Squisha82 · 16/05/2023 18:07

The book bag and Barney toy are lovely aren’t they!
I think I’m more excited about my LG starting than anyone else

FrodisCapering · 16/05/2023 18:47

They are indeed. My little boy also loves the book about starting school.
I must say they've been great with getting the children used to the idea of going there

GC30 · 16/05/2023 19:22

❤️ yes, it's the Tuesday

LBHSisgreat · 29/06/2023 21:19

Hope some of you were visiting today and had a wonderful time! It all looked very exciting.

FrodisCapering · 30/06/2023 04:33

@LBHSisgreat I was there with my little boy. He's going into Reception. We had a lovely time. The Year 6 performance was fabulous.
What year is your little one in?
